Sanctions on Zimbabwe eased by EU

Brussels - European Union foreign ministers on Monday eased sanctions against Zimbabwe and signaled they were ready to go further if a successful constitutional referendum is held later this year.

The EU had applied sanctions to the southern African country in 2002, following a government crackdown on the opposition and eviction without compensation of white farmers from agricultural lands.
